Extracontinent

The "extracontinent" that Damien Mingus invites us to visit in this new album from his My Jazzy Child project is absolutely not an imagined or imaginary space. It is the palpable one, forged by the musician's 25 years of activity, where popular and traditional music, free music, and scholarly traditions confront each other. And whatever you do, don't confuse the crossed zero (empty set) with the crossed o (island in Finnish) used in the title of this album and some of its tracks – here, it is indeed insularity that is claimed. An island-continent made of sound archipelagos where collages and electronic improvisations take root in pop esotericism. Where *Innéisme*, his previous album, subtly questioned the construction of language, *Extracøntinent* this time evokes esoteric discourse to better circumscribe it. The second part, in a way, of a trilogy in the making.
