‘When Smoke Rises’, the debut album by young poet and songwriter Mustafa, is both a testament to life in Regent Park (a disadvantaged neighborhood in downtown Toronto) and a tribute to the loved ones the artist has seen succumb to street violence. A sadly universal story, played out again and again in many city neighborhoods around the world, and from which Mustafa draws inspiration for these eight "inner city folk" songs.
