{"product_id":"multi-interpretes_pierre-barouh-the-saravah-sound_2022_mdl","title":"Pierre Barouh \u0026 The Saravah Sound","description":"Wewantsounds is delighted to present the first vinyl retrospective of Saravah, one of France's most influential labels, founded by singer, songwriter and producer Pierre Barouh. Including Brigitte Fontaine, Jacques Higelin, Alfred Panou, as well as many rare tracks, the selection offers an insight into the label's sound, focusing on the period 1965-1976. Overseen by Benjamin Barouh, this record includes a text by the latter as well as an exclusive interview by Jacques Denis with Fernand Boruso, Pierre Barouh's partner and shadow man, who recounts the label's history through fascinating anecdotes. A prominent singer in the early 60s, Pierre Barouh gained notoriety in 1966 thanks to Claude Lelouch's film Un Homme et Une Femme. In 1965, at the request of Vinicius de Moraes, he recorded a French version of \"Samba da Bênção\" in Rio with Baden Powell on a small Revox, renamed \"Samba Saravah\". Back in Paris, he played the track to his friend Lelouch, who fell in love with it and decided to include it in the film, in which Pierre played himself and co-wrote the soundtrack with composer Francis Lai. The rest is history: the film and the soundtrack were huge successes, but instead of capitalizing on it, Pierre Barouh developed the publishing house Saravah, with his partner and friend Fernand Boruso, into a label and recording studio to produce the projects they cared about in an original and independent way. Thanks to their connections in cinema, in '68 they met Brigitte Fontaine and Jacques Higelin, who were making waves in the Parisian underground and had just recorded \"Cet Enfant Que Je T'avais Fait\" for the soundtrack of Christian Gion's film \"Les Encerclés\". Saravah signed them on the spot and the track, arranged by Jean-Claude Vannier, became a cult hit. The album Comme À La Radio followed in '69 with the Art Ensemble of Chicago, who can also be heard on Marva Broome's \"Mystifying Mama\" and Alfred Panou's \"Je Suis Un Sauvage\", an African actor and singer who had notably worked with Jean-Luc Godard. Pierre Barouh was also a pioneer of world music after spending time in Brazil. Among other things, he released two albums by Gabonese singer Pierre Akendengue, including Africa Obota in '76 with the track \"Orema Ka-ka-ka\". With Fernand Boruso, Saravah became involved in jazz with the Pianos Puzzle series, which included René Urtreger's \"Tchac Poum Poum\", Georges Arvanitas' \"Trane's Call\" and Maurice Vander's \"Sicilienne\". The label also explored more free and experimental aspects of jazz with records by the Baroque Jazz Trio, Michel Roques or the Cohelmec Ensemble. The selection also includes rare singles by actress and singer Béatrice Arnac (then Boruso's partner) with the jazzy \"Le Bruit et le Bruit\" as well as Jacques Higelin's \"Je Jouais le Piano\", one of the first tracks recorded for the label and never reissued. The selection ends with the captivating duet of Pierre Barouh and Baden Powell, with \"Saudade (Un Manque Habité)\" recorded in 1965 in one take during the same Rio session as \"Samba Saravah\". The adventure will nevertheless leave behind a rich and fascinating body of work whose influence has grown over the decades.","brand":"Multi-interprètes","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55311890940248,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0898\/4943\/0360\/files\/3700604739555.jpg?v=1760405631","url":"https:\/\/vinyles.com\/en\/products\/multi-interpretes_pierre-barouh-the-saravah-sound_2022_mdl","provider":"Vinyles.com","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
