The Rich-R-Tone / Folk Star Story - Appalachia On Record, 1946 - 1954
Description
James Hobart Stanton, an independent entrepreneur from Tennessee, left his mark on American music history with his label Rich-R-Tone Records, a pioneer in promoting bluegrass and regional Appalachian music. Active from the late 1940s to the early 1950s, the label launched the first major names in bluegrass, such as the Stanley Brothers, while also covering honky-tonk, folk, gospel, and country boogie. A 12-CD box set with over 320 original tracks bears witness to this major contribution, though it was little known at the time.
