After the 2009 release of We Are Only Riders (which brought together Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan, Debbie Harry, and David Eugene Edwards on 16 magnificent tracks), Glitterhouse is pleased to present Volume 2 of THE JEFFREY LEE PIERCE SESSIONS PROJECT, The Journey Is Long. Like its predecessor, it is an album of reinterpretations of songs by the former Gun Club frontman that never appeared on any album, or were even unfinished, and are performed by the cream of the European and American indie scene. The project was initiated by Cypress Grove, the bassist of the late JEFFREY LEE PIERCE and co-founder of THE GUN CLUB alongside KID CONGO POWERS. He found unreleased songs, lyrics, and lost tapes, which he then offered for reinterpretation over 13 years to friends and fans of his former frontman, including NICK CAVE, MICK HARVEY, DEBBIE HARRY, BERTRAND CANTAT & PASCAL HUMBERT. Cypress Grove explains that this is not a "tribute" project featuring the most famous tracks, but a collection of interpretations of "new" songs. On most of the tracks, the artists had to finish the work left as a draft by JEFFREY LEE PIERCE, and the work is collaborative, with each artist contributing to different tracks. The album is a true project of 18 unreleased tracks of moving beauty and intensity that pays tribute to this singer who died at the age of 37, alone and broke, but who influenced a large number of musicians such as JACK WHITE, MARK LANEGAN, NICK CAVE, and THE FLAMING LIPS.
