Description
In 1956, Starday Records released a 16-track LP titled "Hillbilly Hit Parade Volume 1", featuring artists such as George Jones, Leon Payne, Jeanette Hicks, Benny Barnes, Eddie Blank (aka Eddie Noack), Red Hayes, and Thumper Jones. It included George Jones' hit "Why Baby Why", along with covers of fifteen other country and country hits, originally released on Dixie, Starday's budget label. In 1958, Starday, now merged with Mercury Records, released another 16-track LP, also titled "Hillbilly Hit Parade Volume 1". This record featured George Jones, Benny Barnes, Jeanette Hicks, James O'Gwynn, Leon Payne, and Earl Aycock, including Jones' hits "Yearning", "Uh, Uh, No", "Just One More", and "Don't Stop The Music", as well as Barnes' "Poor Man's Riches".
