After six years in existence and having produced no fewer than 30 singles, 2019 allowed Speedy Wunderground to take a new turn. It was a pivotal year for Dan Carey’s label, which produced a series of acclaimed albums, notably Kate Tempest’s (The Book Of Traps And Lessons) as well as black midi’s (Schlagenheim) and Fontaines D.C.’s (Dogrel), both nominated for the Mercury Prize. Speedy Wunderground is now recognized as one of the most exciting developing labels in the UK, having even been nominated for ‘Best Emerging Label’ at the AIM Awards. With the release of Squid's EP *Town Centre* and the single ‘Sunglasses’ by the Cambridge-based band Black Country, New Road, the label is stepping out of its comfort zone to highlight new UK talent.
