Franz Ferdinand, Jane Birkin, Marianne Faithfull, Placebo, Carla Bruni, Portishead, Jarvis Cocker, Françoise Hardy, Cat Power, Michaël Stipe, Tricky, The Kills, Gonzales, Feist, Dani, The Rakes... take part in the singular album in question. The challenge was considerable: bringing together artists from the international scene to perform English adaptations of Serge Gainsbourg's songs. The casting and the various versions ultimately assembled exceed expectations. The whole achieves an energy and sensitivity rarely found in the difficult exercise that a tribute represents, even with text adaptations signed by Boris Bergmann. We will therefore inevitably be happy to note that not only do many of Gainsbourg's classics still sound great, but we will also be surprised that the cream of the pop/rock crop appropriates them with such relevance or impertinence.Version 2020:Includes two previously unreleased tracks that were not present on the 2006 version: the explosive cover of Les Sucettes by Keith Flint of Prodigy and Angel's Fall by Nina Persson & Nathan Larson.
