A journey through the musical life of Gary Young, the subject of the SXSW award-winning documentary Louder Than You Think, and the unleashed polymath best known as the original drummer of indie royalty Pavement: from early hardcore punk and post-punk recordings to the joyful chaos of Hospital, whose "Plantman" became an unlikely MTV favorite. Original music created by Noah Georgeson and Edward W. Dahl is presented alongside ultra-rare live tracks from Pavement and something truly special: a curiosity written by Gary Young that Gary's old friend Scott 'Spiral Stairs' Kannberg transformed into a wonderfully psychedelic musical piece (enhanced by some meowing from Stephen Malkmus), recorded for the film shortly before Gary's passing in August 2023. Proudly resistant to genres and conventions, the soundtrack of Louder Than You Think is as complex, fun, enigmatic, and ultimately endearing as the boozy hippie who helped define the sound of everything lo-fi, indie rock, and lazy between two pear trees.
