In 1996, Australian artist Andrew Kidman’s avant-garde surf film debut, *Litmus*, served as an emotional reaction to the pop-punk progression that dominated the mainstream. Prior to filming, Kidman’s band, The Val Dusty Experiment, recorded a total of thirty-five songs in one day. The result of the one-and-done sessions was a lo-fi, experimental, and rustic rock-and-roll sound, adding a raw ambience to surf scenes spanning Ireland, Australia, California, and South Africa.
