Imaginational Anthem vol. 6 : Origins of American Primitive Guitar

Description

If American Primitive Guitar began with John Fahey and the Takoma School, then the 14 tracks gathered on this compilation of solo performances are its origins. Recordings from 1923 to 1930, a true Rosetta Stone for this musical genre and repertoire highlighted by Fahey, Basho & Rose, and others. We find here rural artists Sam McGee, Riley Puckett, Bayless Rose, Sylvester Weaver, Lemuel Turner, Frank Hutchison, and Davey Miller. Each with a technique and sensibility stemming from the 19th-century Parlor guitar tradition. This is the first reissue for some tracks, including the first finger-picking solo in history: Sylvester Weaver's "Guitar Blues." Remastered and annotated by Christopher King.
