The musical travel diary of the great Faustina Bordoni sung with passion by Roberta Invernizzi. With I Viaggi di Faustina, Glossa inaugurates a new collection centered on the great voices of 17th and 18th century Italy; the journeys of these artists testify to the intense artistic activity prevailing at that time in the main European cities. This series begins with the great diva Faustina Bordoni, whose career took place mainly in Naples (the heart of this CD) and Venice, as well as in Bologna, Parma, Dresden, or London, cities where the operas of Johann Adolph Hasse (her husband), Nicola Porpora, Leonardo Vinci, Francesco Mancini, or Domenico Sarro triumphed, most of whom are represented in this first selection of great arias. The artist chosen to reincarnate Faustina Bordoni is of course the one that many consider to be the best baroque soprano today: Roberta Invernizzi. In a repertoire that is ideal for her, Invernizzi deploys all her sensitivity and virtuosity with the instrumental support of Antonio Florio and his Turchini. Roberta Invernizzi signs here her second Glossa album as a star singer, after the release in 2012 of a spectacular album of Vivaldi arias, acclaimed by critics and the public. Designed by musicologist Dinko Fabris and director Antonio Florio, under the scientific advice of Juan José Carreras and Giulia Veneziano, this new collection gives full importance to the texts and iconography serving as context for the recording: we hope to thus promote the most complete and stimulating vision possible of the conditions under which the work of these unique artists took place.
