Gipsy rhumba

Description

The original rhythm of gipsy rhumba in Spain 1965-1974. This new compilation from the SOUL JAZZ label is the first to focus on the history of the Gipsy Rhumba style since the early 60s. In Catalonia, the gypsies, creators of flamenco, had the idea of mixing Cuban, Caribbean music, and American rock with their own flamenco. They then create their style and develop a guitar playing technique called the "ventilador" (making the strings sound while hitting the guitar). The gypsy culture aims to be different from "normal society," a nomadic people who advocate freedom and independence. In the 70s, a new generation of gipsy rhumba appears, the scene is enriched by the use of synthesizers, electric guitars, funky basses... In addition to this unique album, SOUL JAZZ has created for the occasion a booklet containing notes (in English and Spanish) and photographs by JACQUES LEONARD, a fine connoisseur of the gypsy movement of the 60s.
