Five years dedicated to music, searching for hidden gems of the past and pearls of today... Five years of unity with a true family of bands affiliated with the label and its values. To celebrate this anniversary, Les Disques Bongo Joe presents FUTUR ANTÉRIEUR, a 19-track digital compilation, where current artists from the Bongo Joe family reinterpret tracks from the label's reissue catalog. The release of this compilation coincides with the (re)opening of the Bongo Joe store in a new setting on the banks of the Rhône, right by the water... A final snub to geographical and genre boundaries, the compilation sees artists such as Meridian Brothers, eccentric pioneers of modern Colombian cumbia, tackle "Extranos Juegos" by Spanish band Zombies (LA CONTRA OLA: Synth Wave & Post Punk from Spain 1980-86), Genevan groovers L'Éclair cover Mauritian singer "Allen sur Moin Qui Bizin Travail" (Soul Sega Sa! Indian Ocean Segas From The 70s) or Derya Yildirim & Grup Simsek reinterpret Ay Dili Dili by Azerbaijani guitarist Rüstem Quliyev, whose retrospective album Azerbaijani Gitara was released in 2020. Label founder Cyril Yeterian, one half of the band Cyril Cyril, recounts: 'Looking at the richness and variety of the catalog we have built over the past five years, it seemed obvious to weave a link between the two sides of the label: current bands and reissued pearls of the past. Several current bands admit to having drawn some of their inspiration from our reissues. This cover project seemed like an obvious choice and we proposed it to all our current bands.' In just five years, Bongo Joe has established itself as an insurgent label, doing things its own way, without hierarchy, and giving new meaning to the world and the music industry starting from its community base and its record store/café/event space in Geneva, Switzerland. This compilation perfectly illustrates that.
