Nickel and Penny were two labels managed by radio DJ Richard Pegue, a Chicago luminary known for his talent in rediscovering forgotten records. He was also a composer, arranger, and producer of some of Chicago's finest soul records from the 1960s and 1970s. It was a shame they went out of stock just weeks after their release. Some of these productions were re-released on Numero Group's 2007 compilation *Eccentric Soul: Twinight Lunar Rotation*. With this new installment in the *Eccentric Soul* series, the label now allows us to savor rare tracks by Jerry Townes, the Voices, the Norvells, Little Ben & The Cheers, South Shore Commission, Joyce Williams, The Hallelujah Chorus, and Brothers & Sisters, and to delve into the epic biography of Richard Pegue, who passed away in 2009 while having been working on this release for several years already.
