The idea for this project was born when D.O.A. founder Joey "Shithead" Keithley, the "godfather of Canadian punk," contacted fellow musicians to re-interpret his songs. The result: 15 powerful covers that capture D.O.A.'s rebellious spirit, honoring and revitalizing it. D.O.A., known as the "Godfathers of Hardcore" since their inception in 1978, have had a lasting impact on the punk and hardcore scene. With over 4,500 shows in 50 countries on five continents and a 47-year history, the band is a cornerstone of the scene. The artists involved include those who cited D.O.A. as their formative early punk experience - this shows in the energetic and respectful reinterpretations on this album. The covers capture the raw energy and untamed style D.O.A. are known for, while also putting a fresh spin on the originals. What is particularly exciting is the stylistic range brought by the different artists - from classic punk rock to more experimental approaches that enrich the hardcore sound. Each version is a nod to the original band, but remains unique thanks to the individual signature of the performers.
