Some of these artists are legends, others have fallen into oblivion. Nearly half are female singers, important figures in the Café Aman tradition, but less represented on contemporary records. All were affected by the conflicts that led to the Asia Minor Catastrophe of 1923 and by the forced migrations between Greece and Turkey. Their work reflects these journeys – poignant poems about the loss of love and home, carried by some of the best musicians of the era. The result of several years of extensive research, this album reveals the precise, sensitive, and powerfully gripping voices of artists such as Antonis \"Dalgas\" Diamantidis, Sofrouniou, and Stellakis Perpiniadis, as well as unreleased recordings by mostly unknown musicians, whose work is presented here for the first time. Carefully remastered and restored by Jordan McLeod at Osiris studio, the LP includes detailed historical and discographical notes by Stavros Kourousis, as well as poetic translations of the lyrics by Tony Klein.
