Agua Larga: Traditional & Imaginary Cimarron Music

Agua Larga offers an immersion into the Afro-Ecuadorian culture of the province of Esmeraldas. The authors have captured how music is part of the daily lives of the inhabitants and dialogues with the other sound elements that surround it. The musical material is thus accompanied by stories, poems, and scenes of daily life captured on the fly, far from sterile studios, in public spaces, on riverbanks, or by the sea.The theme of water ("agua" in Spanish), in all its forms, is the common thread. The sea brought slaves to this new continent, but it is also what provides fish for the fishermen today. The rivers and streams, used by boats and canoes, connect the villages of this tropical forest. Water has also become a scarce commodity in the city, where access is still difficult for part of the population. The scenes captured on the fly will highlight this omnipresence of water, as a place of life and a necessary daily resource.
