Love What Survives

Description

Mount Kimbie is back with a third album, "Love What Survives," an electro-melodic record, perfect for driving with the windows down in your old Volvo. Focusing their work on vocals, the Londoners sometimes flirt with the experimental, often with pop; all without ever falling into the trap of overly formatted, unsurprising music. The surprises, precisely, arrive when you discern the voices of James Blake, King Krule, or Micachu, invited to embellish a few choruses. Resulting from a free composition process and their live performances in recent years, "Love What Survives" is a broader and more ambitious album than what Mount Kimbie has delivered so far. Its elastic melodies and rough instrumentation give this new effort a warm energy: the groove of 'Delta' with chord progressions; 'Poison' reveals a delicate, introspective side; 'Audition' recalls more krautrock influences, with "drum machines that sound like they're played by humans and acoustic instruments that sound like they're played by machines."
