After the international success and German Jazz Awards nomination of their first album, MYT (2025), the Berlin-based group Moses Yoofee Trio returns with their new EP, CHASING LIGHT. Across six tracks, the group distills the live energy of long hours spent in their rehearsal studio in Neukölln, delivering their most instinctive and spontaneous album to date. Produced by the group and mixed by their longtime collaborator oh.no.ty. Drawing on the trio's improvisations, influenced by jazz and hip-hop, this EP creates a new, vibrant, and expansive sound. From the frantic breakbeats and captivating synth lines of "NOTHING TO LOSE" to the harmonic richness of the strings on the title track, through the afrobeat syncopations of "INNER CIRCLES" and the hip-hop confidence of "HONEST," CHASING LIGHT invites listeners into the trio's intuitive universe, where personal expression and meticulous post-production work intertwine. The EP thus sits between the explosive energy of the present moment and the finesse of the arrangements. Founded in 2020 after Moses and Roman met at the Jazz Institute in Berlin, the project came to life when Roman practically forced Moses to jam with drummer Noah Fürbringer. The trio immediately found chemistry, transforming into an equal partnership inspired by jazz greats like Herbie Hancock as much as by contemporary talents such as Robert Glasper, Braxton Cook, and Kaidi Tatham. After Noah began posting snippets of their jams online, the group quickly gained viral notoriety, leading to the release of their first mini-album, Ocean, in 2023 on the LEITER label. The creative openness of CHASING LIGHT testifies to the growth of the Moses Yoofee Trio over the past six years.
