Featuring members of Arcturus, Mayhem, Thorns and 1349 for a Black Metal masterpiece, Peaceville is proud to present the long-awaited DEBUT studio album from recently reformed Norwegian legends MORTEM. When looking back at the history of black metal, some names are familiar like Mayhem, Burzum, Darkthrone. But in the shadows lurks another great purveyor of darkness from the great North. Formed by Marius Vold and Steinar Sverd Johnsen in 1989, Mortem was one of the first bands to emerge from the Norwegian Black Metal scene. They released the highly coveted and brutal demo titled 'Slow Death', with Euronymous & Dead of Mayhem as producer and artist respectively. After the release of Slow Death, the band disbanded, and its members went on to form Arcturus and Thorns, which became pillars of the Black Metal scene and beyond. In a moment of nostalgia and a desire to create music more brutal than Arcturus, Mortem was revived. Thus, the long-awaited album, titled Ravnsvart, possesses the same brutality and spirit as the original incarnation, with new elements, all uniquely crafted in the vein of early Scandinavian Black Metal sounds, elaborated into a masterpiece of unholy horror. Hellhammer (from the legendary Mayhem) on drums, Tor Stavenes (from 1349/Svart Lotus), on bass, join the duo.
