Moritz von Oswald has been one of the great innovators of the Berlin techno scene since the mid-90s. He initially released singles and albums under various artist and project names such as Mauricio, Basic Channel, Rhythm \u0026 Sound, or Chain Reaction, which were celebrated worldwide. Since 2008, his albums have been released under his real name. He regularly collaborates with Carl Craig, Juan Atkins, his trio, and Nils Petter Molvaer. After a 6-year hiatus, he has reactivated his trio. He is supported by drummer Heinrich Köbberling and Detroit pianist and electronic artist Laurel Halo. All tracks were recorded live in the studio at the end of 2020 and edited from long jams, encompassing ambient, techno, and jazz aesthetics. The result: an extraordinary and intense blend of electronics, jazz, and dub. As the album approaches its midpoint, the trio's elongated staging movements delve deeper into dense environments and gently deepening drumming. As the trio moves towards stable foundations in noise and groove, dance beckons, recalling some of techno's jazzier inclinations while veering unattached into uncharted territory. As always with Moritz von Oswald's productions and sonic expressions, traditionally non-percussive sounds, effects, and noises accentuate an inherent groove. This lack of reliance on conventional devices to embellish rhythm leads to such sonic freedoms, with Halo, Köbberling, and von Oswald discovering exciting new ground.
