Blackest Blue

Description

Pioneers of the British trip hop scene, singer Skye Edwards and multi-instrumentalist Ross Godfrey continue their quest for a dreamy soul and pop sound. In 2018, the two founding members of the band Morcheeba returned to their 90s roots, adding a more organic approach to their ethereal and metamorphic music on the album Blaze Away. After having to postpone their tour in 2020, the musicians took advantage of this forced break to perfect the ten tracks of their new long format titled 'Blackest Blue'. It is a refined album that merges previous incarnations and the band's sound - such as downbeat, chill, electro-pop, and soul - into a single cohesive record that dives deep into the soul of the genre, overwhelming the musical heritage. As usual, the band did not approach the album with preconceptions, but rather created an organic journey that represents everything that is great about Morcheeba." There wasn't so much pressure, we really could take our time to find the right songs," says singer Skye Edwards, whose soulful voice hovers over the ballad "Sounds of Blue." A first track illustrated by the aquatic and fairy-like video by Martin J Pickering. This tenth album includes contributions from guitarist Duke Garwood, known notably for his work with Mark Lanegan, and Brad Barr, guitarist of the bands The Slip and The Barr Brothers.
