Monty Alexander is one of the most popular jazz pianists for over 50 years. Early on, his prodigious technique and varied style earned him comparisons to the great Oscar Peterson. But there has always been another facet to Alexander's playing. Usually, jazz takes precedence, but occasionally, he draws deeply from his Jamaican roots. The 1974 recording "We've Only Just Begun" marks the beginning of the fruitful relationship between Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander and MPS, which lasted over a decade and encompassed a dozen albums. On many of them, he only teams up with his fellow Jamaican and one of the fathers of ska, guitarist Ernest Ranglin.
