Monnik (monk) is a very fitting nickname for this experimental one-man band based in Belgium. Monnik serves as a vessel for the self-proclaimed hermit Thibaud Meiresone to explore the boundaries of spiritual isolation, making his musical drones almost ascetic meditations. Layer by layer, the sounds and textures attempt to evoke an atmosphere that is almost shamanic, if not religious, in order to captivate the audience in an introspective grasp. "Belidenisse" (Confessions) takes its title directly from the foundational work of the same name by the Christian theologian and philosopher Saint Augustine of Hippo. In his "Confessions," he writes from an autobiographical perspective, exploring in detail the flaws of his youth and his spiritual journey toward God. It is a deeply personal and vulnerable work, intended to serve as a spiritual guide for all who venture into it. It evokes a meditative state of mind through its qualities of prayer. "Reading this book deeply moved me and served as a friend, companion, and silent mentor throughout the many months of recording this album. I found that many literary and philosophical themes made their way into my mental space while writing this, and as such, they are also reflected in the music itself.
