Ramón "Mongo" Santamaría Rodriguez, composer of the famous jazz standard "Afro Blue" (performed notably by John Coltrane), is a key figure in the fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with R&B and soul, paving the way for the 60s boogaloo. His 1963 rendition of Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. This record features the complete album Mongo Introduces La Lupe, with collaborations from singer La Lupe, accompanied by 2 bonus tracks, in a limited edition of 500 copies on vinyl.
