Molly Lewis is a world-renowned whistler who creates her compositions from scratch. Released in 2021, her debut EP, The Forgotten Edge, features complex and delicate pieces reminiscent of spaghetti western soundtracks and the glamour of old Hollywood. For Molly, whistling is akin to a human theremin. With a witty sense of humor and self-deprecation, this Australian native based in Los Angeles challenges preconceived notions about her art. Her track "Oceanic Feeling" evokes the universe of Les Baxter, while the title track pays tribute to Italian composer Alessandro Alessandroni. Her passion began at the age of twelve when she listened to an album by Steve Herbst. The daughter of a musician and a documentarian, she participated with her father in the International Whistlers Convention in North Carolina, where they won the award for the participants who traveled the farthest. After studying film in Australia, she moved to Los Angeles. Her events, Café Molly, have become must-attend gatherings in the local scene, attracting notable guests such as John C. Reilly, Karen O, and Mac DeMarco. Recorded in 2020 during the lockdown with a group of musician friends, her project brings together many talents including Thomas Brenneck, Joe Harrison, and Eric Hagstrom.
