Romantic Images

Description

'Romantic Images', the third album by Molly Burch, marks a distinct evolution both emotionally and sonically. Recorded in Denver with Alaina Moore and Pat Riley of Tennis on production, the album celebrates the timeless delights of a perfectly crafted pop song, flirting with Blondie, Madonna, and even Mariah Carey. Molly Burch deliberately collaborated with more women than ever on this album, and the result is delectable. Romantic Images prioritizes ecstasy and escapism. The album was recorded in two weeks at Tennis's home studio with guitarist Dailey Toliver and drummer Thom Washburn. Gloria Kaba (Lauryn Hill, A Tribe Called Quest), Mikaelin 'Blue' Bluespruce (Mariah Carey, Solange Knowles), and Heba Kadry (Bjork, Beach House) mixed and mastered the album. Molly designed the record to reflect the emotional journey that led to its creation, sequencing the music to move from nervous indecision to assured certainty over ten captivating tracks. Opening track "Control" makes a leap of faith by learning to make peace with letting go, while the haunting "Heart Of Gold" confronts the desire for what is unattainable. By the time the silky "New Beginning" unfolds, Molly begins to settle into a new confidence that dominates the second half of the album, with the addictive "Emotion" in collaboration with Wild Nothing celebrating the spectrum of emotions as fuel for creativity. Molly's commitment to collective catharsis manages, through her airy delivery, to convey both thoughtful introspection and carefree abandon. There is always a shadow over the album, of course, but the light ultimately prevails, and the result is an intoxicating record devoted to self-discovery.
