Mogwai takes on the soundtrack for the film KIN! The album consists of pieces recorded by the band for the music of the crime/sci-fi film. KIN is directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker and stars Jack Reynor, Zoë Kravitz, Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid, and James Franco. Stuart Braithwaite explains: "We were super happy when we were offered to do the music for Jonathan and Josh Baker's first film. It was great to do something completely different from what we had done before and to see that our music fit into a totally different environment from its previous uses. This is one of Mogwai's best achievements for me, and we can't wait for people to hear it." This is the first time Mogwai has composed a film score, although they have previously composed for the documentaries Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, and Before the Flood. The band also composed the score for the very successful Canal + series Les Revenants.
