To celebrate Beethoven's 250th anniversary, Deutsche Grammophon presents an exclusive recording of his concerto no. 2 performed by the great Argentine pianist Martha Argerich accompanied by the Mito Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Seiji Ozawa. The program of the disc concludes with Mozart's Divertimento in D, performed by the Mito Chamber Orchestra under Ozawa's direction in Mito during the ceremony of the Order of the Rising Sun awarded to Martha Argerich by the Emperor of Japan in 2017.
Beethoven's Concerto no. 2 is the instrumental work to which the composer dedicated the most time of his career. He worked on it throughout the last decade of the 18th century, and made no less than four versions before it was finally published in 1801.
