Born in Poland in 1929, Magin settled in Paris in 1960. After a car accident in 1963, he traded his career as one of the greatest Polish pianists for that of a composer who would never forget the traditions of his homeland. Deeply inspired by Chopin, Magin's music has much in common with that of his ancestor: lucid and distilled music, endowed with a certain pianistic elegance evocative of France and Poland. For this new musical project centered on the interpretation of Magin's greatest works, Debargue collaborates with Gidon Kremer and his ensemble Kremerata Baltica, which can be heard in the interpretation of the Rhapsodic Piano Concerto, a piece with playful agility and magical brightness. This album also includes the world premiere recordings of the Violin Concerto, the Vocalises, and the Andante for violin and piano. Not to mention the intense and holistic Stabat mater for strings and timpani. The Polish word Zal forms the title of the album. It corresponds to an emotion, particularly complex and multifaceted, almost untranslatable. For Debargue, this word carries the fragrance, complexity, depth, and emotion of Magin's music.
