Deep River

Description

Miclen LaiPang makes his recording debut on Delos with a very personal recital. Featuring works that have accompanied him throughout his life, "Deep River" traverses different styles and places that have marked the violinist. Like a river, the program begins at the source and then travels through diverse landscapes, crosses several borders, and opens new horizons. It reflects a life made of movements, countries, cultures, and different sound worlds. Pieces like Deep River and Nobody knows the trouble I've seen echo Miclen's childhood and the United States. Widmung, Liebesleid, and Der Rosenkavalier Waltzes are more associated with Germany and Austria, where Miclen continued his studies. Ravel's Sonata No. 2 is a tribute to his new life in France. With pianist Nigel Yandell, Miclen plays the Stradivarius "Charles Castleman, ex-Marquis de Champeaux" generously loaned by the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth.
