German pianist Michael Wollny, awarded the "European Musician's Prize" by the Académie du Jazz in France, has just released two superb albums back to back. Here, "Wartburg," captured live in concert with the participation of Emile Parisien. Considered the leader of the young German jazz scene, pianist Michael Wollny has been praised in solo, duo (with Heinz Sauer or Joachim Kühn), and of course in trio. In 2013, the magnificent "ThrillBox" was released, recorded with Vincent Peirani's trio, but when speaking of this virtuoso, one naturally thinks of his "art of the trio." Awarded in 2014 by the Académie du Jazz for his album "Weltentraum" (ffff Télérama), the pianist returns with two new masterpieces: a live trio album with faithful drummer Eric Schaefer and Swiss bassist Christian Weber, and a studio album with the trio accompanied by a magnificent classical ensemble directed by Geir Lysne. A romantic and lyrical virtuoso, a master in the art of improvisation and harmonic developments, Michael Wollny offers us finely crafted compositions as well as arrangements of pieces at the crossroads of classical, contemporary classical, and jazz. Wollny and his musicians invite us into an elegant and rhythmic, enchanting and mysterious poetic world. Recorded in Wartburg (Rittersaal) on September 15, 2017
