Miami Sound: Rare Funk & Soul From Miami, Florida 1967-74

Description

Discover the 20th-anniversary edition of Soul Jazz's Miami Sound collection, unavailable for 15 years! Soul Jazz Records' Miami Sound album features rare funk and deep soul gems from Miami, Florida, between 1968 and 1974. The album brings together artists who have sold millions of albums, such as Gwen McRae, George McRae, and Timmy Thomas, as well as artists little known outside the Sunshine State, such as James Knight and The Butlers, Frank Williams and The Rocketeers, and All the People. Miami Funk, Soul, and Disco was dominated by TK Records, founded by Henry Stone in the early 1970s. Through a myriad of associated labels such as Alston, Blue Candle, Dash, Glades, Cat, and others, TK Records turned Gwen McRae and her brother George McRae, Betty Wright, and KC and The Sunshine Band into international artists, all during the transitional period between Soul and Disco in the mid-70s. All the artists and musicians featured on this album worked together during the heyday of TK Records, which churned out hit after hit almost daily.
