Description

‘Arular’ is the debut studio album by British musician M.I.A., produced in collaboration with Switch, Diplo, Richard X, and Ant Whiting and released in 2005. The album was critically acclaimed for its blend of styles ranging from hip-hop to electroclash, baile funk, and punk rock, as well as for its political engagement: ‘Arular’ refers to the political code name used by M.I.A.’s father, Arul Pragasam, a writer and activist, for his involvement with Tamil independence militant groups in Sri Lanka.
