The songwriter and founder of Depeche Mode returns with an atmospheric instrumental album. Martin Gore presents MG, a 16-track atmospheric instrumental album released on Mute. Composed and produced by Martin Gore, work on MG began after Depeche Mode's last Delta Machine tour dates in 2013, in Gore's private studio in Santa Barbara. He then had the idea for an entirely instrumental album: "I wanted the music to remain very electronic, very cinematic, and to have an almost sci-fi feel to it," explains Martin. MG is like the soundtrack to the emotional and mysterious film you've imagined yourself. From an Angelo Badalamenti-esque atmosphere with the track "Elk" to the groovy industrial electro on "Brink," it paints the landscapes of a unique and striking vision. After recording MG, Gore naturally turned to Q to mix it, having already worked together on VCMG's SSSS album, a techno project featuring Vince Clarke and Martin Gore, released in 2012. As for his choice to release the album under the acronym MG, Gore explains: "Since it's a very electronic album with no vocals, I felt it deserved its own character, so I decided to continue the MG concept from the VCMG album." MG highlights an entirely different side of this versatile musician. "As a songwriter, I am fully aware of the power of words," admits Gore. "Especially when they are judiciously juxtaposed with chords and melody. I am also aware of the power of pure music and the emotions that certain musical moods can evoke, and that is precisely what I wanted to capture with this project." Undoubtedly, this new album is one of Mute's major releases at the beginning of 2015!
