MEW, the Copenhagen-based band, presents Visuals, a pinnacle in the work of this group, one of rock's most ambitious and inventive, on Play It Again Sam. Jonas Bjerre, MEW's singer, who typically works on an album's visuals once it's finished, decided for this seventh album to reverse the usual order, first imagining visuals and then seeing how they might influence the music. Entirely self-produced, the album's genesis began during the +- album tour in 2015, on their buses and in their hotel rooms, and continued in Copenhagen for shaping the demos. The trio wanted to create a spontaneous album, retaining the energy they had gained on stage.
Between the festive groove of "Learn Our Crystals," the atmospheric rock of "Ay Ay Ay," the soulful, R'n'B-feeling swing of "Shoulders," and the marvelous glide of "In A Better Place," the band reaches a creative peak with Visuals.
