Funeral Party is an album written like a hangover. Composed and recorded at home, Metro Verlaine's second album exudes frustration and a visceral need for action. More radical and English-speaking than its predecessor Cut-Up, Funeral Party maintains a wild post-punk tension for nearly 35 minutes. Between the nihilism of an already lost youth – "Teenage Dreams", "Frustration" or "Laisse Tomber la Nuit" – and the desire to fight back – "Life is a Riot" – Raphaëlle and Axel let rage take over, guitar riffs are sharp, and words are chanted with violence, as if to silence the quiet. The night has been long, and the black sun burns a little higher in the sky. An ideal moment to let go, dance, and celebrate life. That's exactly what a Funeral Party is.
