The international reggae group Meta and The Cornerstones is releasing their fifth studio album, Echoes of Time, recorded at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, UK, the legendary studio founded by Peter Gabriel. This thoughtful and introspective project brings together the stories and sounds of their recent singles into a coherent and accomplished album.
At the heart of Echoes of Time, it is about awareness. The album does not seek to resolve the contradictions of the world, but to observe them — exploring the tensions between past and present, memory and reality, connection and disconnection. The singer and songwriter Meta Dia addresses deeply personal moments related to love, identity, and belonging, while broadening his vision to that of humanity and the contemporary world.
Musically, the album is based on the heavy and steady rhythms of classic roots reggae, while opening up to a more global dimension. It features influences of afrobeat, soul, and hip-hop naturally integrated into the tracks. Some songs are warm and bright, while others are more urgent and sharp, creating a fluid, rich, and perfectly constructed listening experience.
“Echoes of Time is primarily about attention,” explains Meta Dia. “We live in a time where everything moves very fast, but not everything necessarily progresses. There is beauty in the world, but we also keep repeating the same patterns. This album speaks to these observations, these questions, and how to move forward with more awareness.”
Rather than a linear narrative, the album presents itself as a series of moments. From the contemplative softness of Tropics, to the sincere inquiries of Just for the Soil, to the emotion of Ayee, each track offers a different perspective. At the center, the eponymous track Echoes of Time connects the entire work.
