Multidisciplinary artist and alt R&B singer-songwriter from Alabama, Mereba announces the arrival of her new album The Breeze Grew a Fire, her first for Secretly Canadian. After the release of her debut album, The Jungle Is the Only Way Out (2019) – widely praised by critics and which generated global buzz – followed by the birth of her son in 2021, Mereba’s perception of herself changed and, consequently, the methods of her creative process as well. Her album draws on new experiences and early influences, tapping into her maternal instincts. Mereba rediscovers a space for her most authentic self. This transformation led Mereba to the intimacy of DIY recording sessions, providing a spontaneous and organic foundation for the album. Mereba enlisted her longtime collaborator Sam Hoffman to assemble the album’s rich production, which reflects its folk warmth and features experiences and memories ranging from Atlanta – whose diverse music scene helped shape her art – to Los Angeles, and from Addis Ababa to Greensboro.
