Ménades bursts onto the scene with an incendiary debut album. After two European tours and an appearance at Rock en Seine, the band is embarking on a West Coast US tour, including performances at the Freak Out festival in Seattle and Psyched Fest in San Francisco. This penchant for travel and live performance is subtly evident in this first opus, infused with riotous energy and punctuated by tremors. This fury, bordering on delirium—the fury of the mythological Maenads—is found in the post-punk band's music, which they transform into a true explosion on stage. Their possessed bodies and instruments, combined with a turbulent and mocking euphoria, undoubtedly bring them closer to the spirit of Viagra Boys, IDLES, and Amyl & the Sniffers. Ménades is a band that revives the rebellious fever of 90s punk rock with hybridizations of shoegaze, psychedelia, and even funky elements that create syncopated rhythms, reverberated vocals, dissonant guitars, and bouncing bass lines. While the combative aspect of their songs resonates with the troubles and distress of our era, Ménades avoids the hackneyed and simplistic label of a somewhat moralistic "activist band." On the contrary, *Sur les cendres* invites us to dance on the ruins of the old world and to enjoy ourselves without restraint in these apocalyptic times.
