Following their 2015 album Ratworld, which was enthusiastically received by the press, the Leeds duo – made up of Liza Violet and Ryan Needham – is back with a psychedelic and haunted production. Ryan and Liza wrote Lemon Memory in the hope of breaking the citrus curse they believe they are under. Armed with a copy of the book 'Les Cultes Mystérieux', they leave Leeds and fly to Ibiza, where they begin writing the follow-up to Ratworld. Once the album writing is complete, the duo heads to the studio with Ross Orton (MIA, Arctic Monkeys, The Fall). Lemon Memory opens with 'Give Blood', a pop flash – perhaps the only one on the album – and gradually reveals itself to be much more expansive, exploring Krautrock sounds and slipping into psychedelic gaps, all while never abandoning the rebellious melodies that define MENACE BEACH. The work reaches its peak with the epic 'Hex Breaker II'. Lemon Memory may not be the key to lifting the lemon curse hanging over the duo, but it is certainly the sound of a band forging its own alternative identity.
