Chants de la Méditerranée

In 2011, Keyvan Chemirani coordinated the album Trio Chemirani Invite where the family of Iranian percussionists invited musicians from all backgrounds and styles to create a magnificent encounter and an album that sold very well. In Melos - Chants de la Méditerranée, Keyvan brings together flamenco, Greek music, and traditions from the Maghreb - among others. “Each one moves towards the other, towards a very concrete and clearly defined space, but really keeping their own language, phrasing, intonations, everything that makes them who they are.” From Spain, guitarist Juan Carmona and his ensemble, from Greece En Chordais, and from Tunisia Dorsaf Hamdani - who participated in 2010 in the creation Ivresses around the poetry of Khayyam, a great critical and public success - met in Tunisia this summer to create the show and the album. Like in an initiatory fable, the encounter makes possible much more than the sum of the parts. This is what the Mediterranean sings: a space richer through the relationships it fosters.
