In 1967, Mel Brown signed with Impulse and released his first album as a leader, 'Chicken Fat'. A true crossroads between Mississippi Blues and the burgeoning Rhythm and Blues of Memphis, this album was a masterpiece and certainly one of the master's most powerful records.
Mel Brown, an outstanding blues guitarist, began his career alongside Sonny Williamson and Jimmy Beasley in the mid-1950s, then joined Johnny Otis for a few years and collaborated with many other greats such as Etta James and T. Bone Walker.
