This CD brings together all the works for violin and piano. Mel Bonis left behind an important body of work consisting of around three hundred pieces. The majority was composed between 1892 and 1914. Her music, in a post-romantic style, is well rooted in her time. It is very varied, ranging from drama to humor, often vigorous and sensual, with impressionistic or oriental influences, always very well written and of great sensitivity. It features a personal style that is easily identifiable due to the originality of its harmonies and rhythms. A critic wrote in 1923 for the “Courrier des Musiciens”: “I remember hearing at the Salon des Musiciens a sonata (by Mel Bonis) that gave me infinite pleasure… This sonata written for piano and violin included an andante built on a Greek melody with very sober writing. The theme developed very happily, then suddenly burst into a powerful and colorful finale. Nothing was more enjoyable than this opposition of shadow and light so artistically rendered.” Françoise Tillard, pianist and vocal coach, leads a master's program in letters and music at the University of Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle, training students in piano and voice recitals. She dedicates the rest of her time to chamber music. In 1971, she entered the Conservatoire de Paris where she obtained her First Prize in violin and her First Prize in chamber music. This was followed by an award at the Niccolò Paganini International Violin Competition in Genoa, and then a second prize at the Trapani International Chamber Music Competition. Francine Trachier was simultaneously a laureate of the Ravel Academy, studying under Maurice Gendron, Jean-Pierre Wallez, and Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Since 1989, she has been the solo violinist of the Orchestre Régional de Normandie. She has worked with Kenneth Weiss, Jean-François Zygel, Cédric Tiberghien, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano, Michel Portal, Christophe Coin, Iouri Bachmet, Cyprien Katsaris…
