Even back then, some bands were no longer content with just playing fast and aggressively. In many cases, thrash metal became more sophisticated and technical. In the United States, Watchtower pushed this trend to the extreme, followed by several bands in Germany on the Aaarrg Records label (Mekong Delta, Target). While other bands initially played it straight before flirting with progressive elements over the course of their careers (Holy Moses, Deathrow, Destruction), the Hamburg-based band MEGACE developed a sophisticated blend of thrash and prog from the band's founding in 1988. With singer Melanie Bock, they also had a special asset up their sleeve, as she can do both: guttural thrash screams and melodic singing. This immediately set MEGACE apart from other bands, giving them an opportunity they capitalized on. After a few demos, the first album "Human Errors" was released, which was consistently praised by the press and still has fans worldwide today (CD and LP reissue, Golden Core 2025). The second album "Inner War" was released belatedly in 1999 on the small label Angular (Sylvan, Vanishing Point, Lana Lane). The thrash factor was somewhat reduced, while the melodic side of the band and Melanie Bock's clean vocals took center stage. MEGACE achieved this without wavering. 1999 was not the ideal time for this style, but the CD found more and more fans over the years, and the demand for a vinyl edition became increasingly pressing. The musicians of that time decided to grant the exclusive license to Golden Core.
