With Médine, we know that we are facing a rapper whose voice carries well beyond French hip-hop. For him, every phrase, every comma, every punchline has meaning. His writing, sharp and incisive, he puts at the service of a rap that he wants to be committed and responsible. After co-writing the book "Don't panik" with writer and geopolitical analyst Pascal Boniface in 2012, Médine returns today with his new album titled "Protest song" (release on June 3, 2013). Behind this evocative title that references Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, and Bob Marley, lies an album that marks a new musical opening for the rapper, more unifying than ever. "I feel in great rapological shape lately. Textually, this album will be deeper than the first ones. My challenge was to gain in musicality while continuing to be textually dense. The whole soul of Protest song is contained in the eponymous track. Music as a voice for social movements and as a means of intellectual emancipation. I didn't want to serve the same recipe to listeners that would have the effect of locking me into the aesthetics of commitment." Médine
