Scathing and hypnotic, 'Ilana (The Creator)' (2019) marked the beginning of a new chapter for Mdou Moctar. It was the first album by the Nigerien guitar prodigy recorded with a rock band, perfectly capturing the dense and psychedelic sound of the quartet – a blend of Tuareg desert blues and ZZ Top – honed over a long series of live performances, and leading to the release of the explosive 'Afrique Victime' (2021) and 'Funeral For Justice' (2024).
