McCoy Tyner and Bobby Hutcherson, two of the major figures in jazz since the 1960s, officially co-led an album only twice, but their collaboration, which began in 1966, gave rise to several encounters, to which this new official album is now added.
During this concert in Perugia, the vigor of the two musicians is still palpable: supported by the powerful rhythm of Avery Sharpe and Aaron Scott - founding members of Tyner's trio at the time -, the pianist and the vibraphonist offer us a memorable evening that the author of these lines, present at the concert, remembers with immense pleasure over the years, long before the release of this recording on Red, long before it became accessible to the whole world.
We are certain that those who hear it for the first time will appreciate it as much as we do.
Recorded live at the Umbria Jazz Festival, Teatro Morlacchi, Italy, on July 17, 1993.
