Songs from before

Description

The classical, punk, and electronic musical influences of Max Richter have inspired him to create numerous masterpieces of concert music, ballets, operas, film or theater music, incorporating literature and poetry. His third album, Songs From Before, blends the beauty of the baroque with modern and minimalist orchestration through melancholic, gentle melodies conducive to daydreaming. Interspersed with texts by Haruki Murakami read by the English composer Robert Wyatt, Richter's compositions evoke the remembrance of forgotten stories. The bittersweet interplay of instrumental parts and spoken pieces carries Richter's compositions somewhere between a fragile and fearful dream and a deep melancholy. The title of the project refers not only to the fact that the album was written over a long period but also to the many musical influences that enrich it. The pieces draw from music written from the 2000s to three centuries earlier, serving as starting points for Max Richter or as latent inspirations firmly rooted in the atmosphere of his works.
